The Mermaid Jemima Set in Blue is the only matching set in the Mr Winston bottoms range — a fitted scoop-neck top and a flared maxi skirt designed and sized as one outfit. Where the Mermaid Jemima Actually Wears
Most of the Mr Winston range is built for casual everyday — the puff hoodies, the trackpants, the lounge sets. The Jemima sits outside that lane on purpose. It’s the set our customers come back for when they need something for an actual event and don’t want to think about coordinating separate pieces.

What Makes the Set Work
The reason Jemima sells as a co-ord (rather than two separate pieces stocked together) is the dye match. Blue jersey from different production batches almost never matches exactly — even when ordered to the same Pantone, fabric absorbency varies enough that you get visible difference between top and skirt. Sold as a set, the two pieces come from the same dye run, guaranteed match.
The cut philosophy is fitted-on-top, fluid-on-the-bottom — the top hugs the torso, the skirt flares from the natural waist out to a wide hem. This is the silhouette equation that flatters most body shapes; the visual contrast between fitted and flowing creates the hourglass impression regardless of underlying frame.

- Skirt: Sits at natural waist, flares from upper-thigh outward, mermaid hem (longer at back than front)
- Closure: Pull-on (no zips, no buttons) — elastic-comfort waist on the skirt
- Length: Skirt finishes at ankle on average heights (165-170cm); shorter heights pool slightly at the hem
- Lining: The skirt is fully lined; the top is unlined (jersey is opaque on its own)
Sizing — Read This Before Ordering
The Jemima is sized as one unit — top and skirt come in the same size. This works for most customers but can be tight if your top and bottom sizes differ significantly:
If you usually wear different top and bottom sizes: Size based on your larger measurement. The jersey has stretch on the smaller side, so if your top is M and bottom is L, take L — the M top will accommodate. Reverse doesn’t work as well; an M skirt won’t grow to fit an L lower frame.
Most customers take their usual size for a fitted-but-comfortable look. Size down only if you want skin-tight on top — the skirt will always have natural drape regardless of size.

Can I buy just the top or just the skirt?
Through us, no — we only stock the set as a co-ord. If you only need one piece, the brand-direct mrwinstonco.com sometimes lists individual components. We stock the matched set because that’s how 95%+ of customers actually wear it.
Will the skirt drag if I’m shorter than 165cm?
Slightly, yes. Customers under 160cm typically pool the hem at the floor by 2–4 inches. Most either wear with heels (lifts the hem) or have a tailor shorten the skirt — easy alteration on stretch jersey. We don’t offer alterations through this site, but any tailor can do it for under $30 NZD.
How does the blue compare to navy?
Deeper than mid-blue, lighter than navy — sits in the marine/peacock blue range. Reads richer in photos than indoors. Pairs cleanly with metallic jewelry (silver more than gold), beige bags, and tan or cream shoes. Doesn’t pair well with brown or olive.
Can I sit down all night without it riding up or wrinkling?
The jersey has good recovery — stand up and the wrinkles drop within seconds. The skirt’s elastic waist sits put rather than rolling down. We’ve had customers wear it through full-day weddings and photograph well at the end of the night. The one caveat: spill protection. Jersey shows water marks more than synthetic blends — keep drinks at arm’s length.
Is this a once-and-done piece or can I rewear?
Built to rewear. The set photographs differently with different accessories — gold jewelry pulls it dressier, denim jacket over the top dresses it down significantly. Customers report wearing it across 5–10 events on average before considering it “seen too much” by their immediate circle.
Care
Cold gentle wash inside-out. Hang dry — never tumble. If you must iron, low setting on the reverse only. Stretch jersey hates heat; high temperatures break down the elastane and the skirt loses its flare permanently. Treated correctly, the set holds its shape and colour for years.
